Staff Application Engineer

Aurora is a startup at the forefront of the autonomous vehicle space. As one of their early employees, I was brought on as their first Atlassian‑suite SME. I played a key role in helping scale their systems, tools and processes during their rapid growth from a two-year-old, 500-person startup to an almost 2000-person enterprise-level organization. During my time at Aurora I spent time on multiple teams. I spent the bulk of my tenure embedded within the Core SRE team, where I was involved in initiatives and projects relating to Observability and Incident Management, and for my final year I was the senior engineer on the Enterprise Applications team, supporting a portfolio of critical COTS applications including Workday, Salesforce, and NetSuite.

• Partnered with executive and technical stakeholders to define business requirements, acting as a strategic advisor to architect high-impact solutions that aligned with long-term company objectives utilizing the Atlassian suite of tools.
• Functioned as Technical Lead Manager, planning, scoping and prioritizing work, managing bandwidth and workload, and mentoring junior engineers.
• Established and enforced best practices and baseline configurations for Jira and Confluence, creating scalable governance standards across several dozen software, IT, product, support and hardware engineering teams.
• Led the Jira migration following Aurora’s acquisition of Uber ATG, managing phased project imports, migrating over 100 projects and approximately 1,200 users, resolving data integrity issues, and consolidating redundant configurations.
• Helped architect Aurora’s enterprise-wide Incident Management process using Jira, OpsGenie, and FireHydrant.
• Identified suboptimal external Jira integrations, reducing unnecessary programmatically created Jira issues by approximately 80%.
• Maintained a Flask-based middleware application to integrate Jira with external systems (e.g., Plex, ShipStation), supporting structured and automatic issue creation and bulk operations, processing several hundred transactions per month.
• Managed Aurora’s Jira and Confluence Data Center AWS infrastructure, utilizing Terraform.
• Architected solutions for other teams involving the entire suite of Enterprise Applications at our disposal.

Senior Atlassian Engineer
